Speak Up

The Smithsonian silenced the ideas of artist David Wojnarowicz because anti-gay pressure groups got politicians to threaten the Smithsonian’s funding.

Write to your members of Congress and tell them the Smithsonian should make room for all points of view. Find your representatives and senators here.

Write to the person who censored the art in the first place, Smithsonian Secretary G. Wayne Clough, and tell him that great museums don’t censor. Email to: cloughw@si.edu

Share this site on social media like Facebook and Twitter (use the #censoredart hashtag!).

You should add the controversy and protest to Wikipedia’s information about the Smithsonian.
